Maio fears more local aid cuts
Recommends placing $800,000 in Stabilization Fund
By MARK SARDELLA
WAKEFIELD - Fearing that the state budget cannot sustain promised levels of local aid, Town Administrator Stephen P. Maio is recommending that the town, in its FY’11 budget, place $800,000 in the Stabilization Fund to cover possible mid-year 9C local aid cuts in FY’11 or even deeper cuts in FY’12.
Maio's recommendation came as part of a revised budget forecast that he presented to the Board of Selectmen last night.
Board members unanimously supported Maio's Stabilization Fund plan.
Maio said that Governor Deval Patrick's initial FY’11 state budget calls for local aid to be level funded. However, he was concerned that neither the House nor the Senate had yet submitted written local aid figures and may not do so until after Wakefield holds its Annual Town Meeting in May.

Vehicle flips onto its side in Greenwood
WAKEFIELD — A man became trapped inside his 2006 Ford SUV after sideswiping a car parked near the intersection of Oak and Main streets yesterday at 5:44 p.m., and firefighters opened the glass sunroof to pull him from the vehicle which had flipped onto the driver’s side, said Fire Chief Michael Sullivan.
A witness to the accident told police that the Ford driver, identified as Corey L. Fanjoy, 40, 1077 Main St., #411 was traveling south on Main Street when he sideswiped the parked motor vehicle, a 1999 Lexus owned by James M. Anastasiades Jr. of 12 Rosemary Ave.
The Ford turned onto the driver’s side on impact and came to rest in the center of Main Street, said police.
Fanjoy was temporarily trapped inside the vehicle but was freed on arrival of firefighters. He was then transported to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
